A yoga tip: OmStars

Hey hey hey, gorgeous!

Just popping in to share a GREAT yoga tip with you. Something I use every day and absolutely LOVE! Insert drumroll: OmStars!

Perhaps you’ve already heard about it and use it? Well, if not read on.

I’ve been practising with OmStars for a couple of months now and LOVE it. Basically, OmStars is Netflix for yogis and the channel is created by the amazing Kino MacGregor (aka Kino Yoga) and Kerri Verna (aka Beachyogagirl). I mean, honestly, can you get better teachers that these two? One day I would LOVE to practise with both of them in real life but for now I’m just thrilled to be practising with them online.

Sooo, let’s talk more about OmStars and what it is!

On the website OmStars is described as:

OmStars is real, watchable, entertaining, enlightening, authentic, life-changing content made for yogis by yogis. We like to think ourselves as “Netflix for Yogis”. Whether you are a total yoga beginner, someone looking for healing from chronic pain, searching for mindfulness and meditation to soothe a busy mind, or trying to master a handstand, we will be with you every step of the way. You’ll discover a sense of the sacred and re-open the doors of reverence your life. Yoga is a spiritual tradition with profound depth one your experience on OmStars is curated by the best teachers in the world. Each class is part of a larger course designed by a select group of the leaders in spirituality and mindfulness.

Our platform covers in-depth how to live the holistic health lifestyle and goes way beyond just what shapes you can make with your body. You’ll get to see the real life of yogi Mom Kerri with two kids and travel the world with globe-trotting Kino and much more. Understand what a yogi does, how a yogi talks, you get to share so much more than just great classes. OmStars is your virtual sangha, a community where you share your yoga practice and the transformation it has brought to your life.

Sounds pretty amazing, right? Well, it is!

There are four categories: Practice, Insight, Wellness & Culture. So, they really cover everything which I personally am huge fan of. Yoga is so much more than the poses you do on your mat – yoga is a way of life – and OmStars really understands that.

I am learning so much about yoga and the yogi lifestyle. Until I started practising with OmStars, I was mostly focused on getting on my mat and do the asanas (the poses). But now I am meditating every day, I am challenging myself so much more when I do my asanas, I am learning about the philosophy behind yoga and what yoga really is.

& let me tell you: it is CHANGING my life! Yes, really. I am happier, more content, more peaceful, my anxiety level is decreasing (they have been sky high since my boyfriend died in November last year), I’m living more in the moment, I feel more free, my “depression thoughts” and “eating disorder thoughts” are decreasing as well & I have more energy.

So yeah, I am quite psyched about OmStars because it is truly making a HUGE change in my life. & it’s much cheaper than practising at a studio. OmStars costs $15 per month, and most yoga studios I go to in London cost like £95 a month!

I still go to a classes every now and then to practise with a teacher in real life but I am saving A LOT of money by having switced to OmStars – & I’m learning a ton! Also, OmStars is great if you travel a lot or have a crazy schedule because you can take OmStars with you ANYWHERE and you can do it ANYTIME.

Are you practising on OmStars? If you are, what do you think? Would LOVE to hear your thoughts about it!

Love you lots, babes!

My 3 favourite podcasts

Hello, hello, hello, gorgeous people!

It is no secret that I LOVE podcasts. In fact, I think it’s safe to say I am addicted to them. I listen to them ALL the time. When I get ready in the morning, when I shower, when I sit on the train, when I am in the Tube, when I am walking (sometimes I go for a walk just to listen to a podcast episode!), when I cook, when I clean, when I remove my make-up at night, when I drive, when I go grocery shopping….. You get the picture.

Fun fact: when I started listening to podcasts none of my friends or family members knew what it was. It’s the same story about blogging. No one had heard of blogging when I started reading them. Everyone thought I was a total weirdo (well, they still do)!

I am playing with the thought of starting my own podcast. I love interviewing and talking to people (hint: one of the reasons I decided to become a journalist), and hello, I am a journalist – I am kind of trained to interview people!

But for now, it is still just a thought – perhaps I will do something serious about it when I move back to Denmark. First, I want to build a community on The Glowing Yoga Girl and connect with even more women (& men for that matter) across the globe! Sometimes I really have to remind myself to take it one step at a time! Is anyone else like this?

SO back to the podcasts! Since I love podcasts so much and I listen to A LOT of them every day, I figured why not share my absolute three favourite podcasts? Here goes!

The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Podcast

I have been reading Lauryn Evart’s blog, The Skinny Confidential, for YEARS. I am pretty sure I was one of her first readers. She is hilarious and I LOVE her! So, when her husband, Michael Bosstick, and her started a podcast a little over a year ago, I was jumping up and down with excitement. Their podcast is seriously fantastic. It’s SUPER informative (I am learning SO much!), hilarious (Dah! It’s Lauryn & Michael!) and they share so many tricks & tricks! They talk about blogging, entrepreneurship, branding, relationship, travel, marketing, social media and SO MUCH MORE! I cannot tell you how much I love this podcast!

The Balanced Blonde Soul on Fire Podcast

You all know how much I LOVE Jordan Younger aka The Balanced Blonde. She is probably the blogger that inspires me the most. Jordan is the sweetest, most down to earth and lovable person. She never fails to inspire me! I really hope I get the chance of meeting this mega babe one day! But let’s talk about her podcast! Jordan discusses everything from the young entrepreneurial blogging life to wellness, friendship, branding a business, writing, how to keep the passion alive and a bunch of other stuff! She interviews so many awesome & inspiring persons. Seriously, go listen!

Let it Out with Katie Dalebout

I don’t really remember how I found Katie. In fact, I don’t remember at all. Suddenly she was just there? Idk… No matter how she found me (or I found her), I am glad I know about her. Katie has so many deep, meaningful & inspiring conversations with so many amazing people. & Katie is so nice! You cannot help liking her. She talks about love, art, mindfulness, holistic living, sex, relationship, business, feminism, personal growth, health, body image, blogging and much more.

So guys, these are my three favourite podcasts, and I listen to them every week – sometimes I even go back and listen to old episodes (yes, they are THAT good!).

Love you babes!

Chocolate bomb smoothie

 Hi beauties,

If you are a chocolate lover you will fall in love with this smoothie. It’s creamy, delicious, and irresistible. I added lots of chocolate granola on top of our smoothies. If you prefer to skip the granola by all means do so. However, I do think the granola adds a nice crunch to the smoothie. & it’s even more chocolate! What’s not to like?

Why I don’t like labels

Hi you beautiful humans!

The topic about labels has been much on my mind lately. The labels we put on ourselves regarding food that is. Vegetarian, vegan, raw foodie, paleo, gluten-free, dairy-free, plant based, sugar free blah, blah, BLAH.

For a long time, I identified with the vegetarian label and for about six months the vegan label as well. However, I no longer identify with neither the vegetarian nor the vegan label. I found the external pressure to be perfect overwhelming and I felt so restricted.

Often I would feel like a failure if I accidentally ate something that contained dairy, and I would beat myself up about it. I felt restricted if I were at a coffee shop where they did not have non-dairy milk, and I would just order water while my friends would order lattes which was what I really wanted. It was hard to travel as well because I had so many rules about my food – often I would leave restaurants so hungry that I would have to eat snacks as soon as we got back to our flat or hotel.

That was when I decided to let go of the vegan label – simply to give myself more freedom and happiness in my life. When I moved to London I let go of the vegetarian label as well. I had been craving salmon for almost a year (yes, a year!), and my sweet family here in London (who btw eat vegetarian like 85 percent of the time) asked me why I just didn’t try a little fish with them for dinner one day? If I didn’t like it, I could just leave it. I could not come up with a good answer so I decided to try it. And I loved it. It felt so good to listen to my body and give it what it needed and wanted.

Do not get me wrong; if you identify with any food label and feel happy about it, by all means go for it. I am not judging you, and I am happy for you if the label makes you happy. It just personally did not make me happy.

Even though I no longer identify with being vegetarian, vegan, plant based or any other label, I still eat a mostly plant based diet. I eat loads of veggies, fruit, nuts, beans, legumes, dried fruit etc. I LOVE these foods, and they make me feel good.

However, I eat dairy products in moderation, I enjoy a cupcake every now and then (with sugar, eggs and butter), I eat fish and chicken when I crave it (and if I find myself craving other kind of meat, I will eat that too. But I honestly never liked it – even as a kid).

So, although my diet mainly consists of plant based and vegetarian foods, it is no longer restricted to only plant-based, vegan and vegetarian food which has given me SO much more freedom and happiness. I no longer worry about food when I travel or visit friends or family or feel restricted in any way. It feels AMAZING and I love it!

What are your thoughts on food labels? Do you identify with one or are you more like me?
